Your turn…

THIS POST IS ALL ON YOU! ONE QUESTION…

WHAT MAKES A GREAT TRAINING ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU?

Let environment take in the full space of how you respond best to and are motivated most to reach deep and reach higher.  Not just the time you are training directly. Tangibles and intangibles. What you like and what you think should be avoided.  Cant wait to hear from your thoughts!  (your responses will help me in current and future plans and expansions)

THANK YOU!!!

Explosive power? What does that mean? Why do I need that?

Great questions! Very important to understand too! We all have a picture in our mind, or actually more of a little movie about what we think that term might mean. It’s certainly not wrong, but it’s just not complete. Major American contact sports are full of what our “movie” of explosive power illustrates to us. Every play in football ignites with explosive power of major muscle groups of every player trying to overpower the opponent at each position. The swing of a bat in major league baseball, a sprinter exploding off the blocks in a race, hockey players with explosive sprints and rapid change of direction. There are of course many many examples we could add, But what is explosive power exactly?

The answer is simple, but the acquisition is a bit more complicated, though it does not need to be. Athletes spend untold numbers of hours and insane amounts of money on developing this power. It is the currency of sport performance. So what about everyone else?  You may say it is unnecessary or not attainable. It is true, you do not need the amount of muscle mass of these athletes. You can however greatly benefit from the development of the real mechanism of explosive power…fast twitch  muscle fiber!

When we engage in training activities we are “training” all types of muscle fiber. For now that’s 3 types that we have names for and at least a fourth that moves around a bit depending on demand. Information is sent to the central nervous system about what current demand is based on your movements. That process continues at very high rates and a cascade of events occurs up and down the physical chain to keep up with your movements and maintain positions. Back to muscle fibers. They are firing and contracting within a known set of parameters. That is to say the order that muscle fiber is “used”, contracted, to produce the required outcome…propulsion, braking, change of direction, balance and all the various nuances of each. This order of muscle “use” does not change much and the result is a certain level of limitation on performance. The traditional thinking is that size of muscle is key. This has significant limitations. So, the purpose of variety of training, mixing up many variables, cross training, flexibility, and so on, all to push performance higher, but not much changes. Ultimately at a certain level for these athletes training becomes a cyclical maintenance program and minor injury management, or major injury management.

It is not so different for everyone else who is not an athlete at this level. It is economy of scale. You are on some sort of “obstacle” course or physical challenge everyday. Though you don’t necessarily label it as such. (have you ever had days where you said “I need to get to the gym more”, “Get out and run a bit more”, “Ride my bike a bit more”?) This runs the gamut of challenging the body by forcing it to sit all day and do repetitive motions. There may be visits to the gym, erratic training, too much training, more sitting while commuting. Weekend warrior activities where some degree of injury always accompanies engaging in these activities. Seasonal activities that we are unprepared for. Skiing, softball, bowling, tennis, running, cycling etc etc. Muscle mass declining with age, life changes that affect activity levels, and physical changes that make activity more difficult! In no way least in the population are individuals with any number of neuro-muscular challenges or diseases.

So, tying this together, lets go back to explosive power. Explosive power IS using fast twitch muscle fiber. Traditional resistance and other types of training do not provide an environment that changes the order of selection for this incredibly important muscle fiber. The training environment or conditions which are responsive kinetics on FasTwitch Kinetics equipment create the unique demand on the human physiology that produce a new outcome in fiber type firing order. Fast twitch fires first. The implications for you and me and all the various individuals in situations like the above is greater mobility, greater confidence moving about in daily activities. The overall affect is that all muscle fiber is trained and called upon much more quickly and efficiently. Very important for those nearer to the edge or maybe looking in at activities that they want to engage in. This is simply the game changer, hands down, period. And yes, even all the athletes who are striving to find gains, they have not cracked the code in any current mode. I could list a number of people who have had significant success using this training. Here’s one. Michael Jordan owned 5 of these machines which were spread around the country.

CONCLUSION:  Responsive kinetics training with FasTwitch Kinetics! EVERYTHING else you want to do is done better! These changes occur quickly!

who are you?

Always the first question…even when not asked out loud.  So this page will give a little background. It will illustrate my “why”.  The mission statement boils it down to its essence as it directly relates to FasTwitch Kinetics.  What follows here is the path traveled from an approximate starting point.  The story.  I will try not to get too wordy and stick to the high points, although as always, some low points have certainly been pivotal.  They certainly exist on this path.  What’s important is what I have chosen and am pursuing as a result.

At start of the 1990s there was a struggle of self.  Things simply not working in any way that I expected they should. Trying to find purpose and higher calling…the “why”.  I was not consciously labeling anything I was doing as pertaining to those goals really.  I knew I wanted to do more for me and my family but could not find the flow.  Real Estate course and certification, series 6 license and financial services, both on the heels of several attempts at business in construction services.  Nothing hitting the mark.  Nothing resonating.  Really pretty frustrating.

A friend suggested I do something I loved just because I loved it. (Thanks Steve) That something was in the ski industry.  I skied and was good and it had been a passion since 10 years old or so.  I had seen the Hahnenkahm downhill race on TV and watched Killy and Kidd and others in Olympic events and it was what I wanted to do so bad!  I learned to ski behind a snowmobile! (imagining it was those races) Thanks Dad, it was really cool…it still is!  I did not know much about technical aspects of equipment then, but when it is something that is in your blood as it were, you learn differently.

Jumping ahead a decade or so and I am living in a different part of the country.  A place where much history of skiing in America was written.  Vermont.  Killington to be exact. At this point highly proficient and now developed eye for technical evaluation and a unique and comfortable ability to engage with skiers on any level and lead them to solutions that bring a higher degree of fun and excitement to them in the sport.  The intricacies of equipment selection and set up.  Bootfitting and all that it entails from selection to fine tuning.  Biomechanical evaluation that results in the next level of performance.  Part technical and part education for the client.  Everything moves from their perspective and goals.  Demanding and invigorating and deeply satisfying.  Though, still something missing, it was just not quite “it”.

In this time frame I was also racing around New England and the country in USSA Masters and some citizen events.  I took a view of this as a serious undertaking from the standpoint of safety and proficiency.  I evaluated everything regarding my performance and sought to get better on every run or event.  Without bogging down on detail this all led to working with a friend as a ski tech for the Austrian Skicross team one month prior to the 2010 Olympics at Vancouver.  This was a pivotal point that came from a very high point.  A very very high point.  An introduction to one of the very new and to me very cool emerging freeski/freestyle sports. I am leaving so much out here, but what I am doing with FasTwitch Kinetics really began to accelerate from right here!

In August 2010 I was on a plane to Argentina with the powerhouse Canadian Skicross team to essentially interview for the same position with that 11 member team.  I worked for them during the 2010/11 season and then had something of an epiphany.  I knew, I just knew and could see a unique convergence of my experiences especially in the previous 15 years, but not only, and it was very clear that it was time to step into my lifelong passion.

Result was, diving headfirst into a 4 year degree plan to ramp up my applicable knowledge base and couple that with considerable experience, reinventing myself based on the living energy from what all of this had reignited!  I punctuated these 4 years with a semester “off” working again on the World Cup for China Freestyle Aerials Team.  A remarkable season with former US Ski Team Freestyle Head Coach Jeff Wintersteen. More energy, more fuel to the fire.

As I began the meat of my B.S. degree at the College at Brockport, I came in contact with the technology that I present to you through FasTwitch Kinetics ,as well as Dr, Chris Williams, an individual I consider pre-eminent in the research and application of this training mode.  The equipment, a very rare responsive kinetics machine and the opportunity to engage in training on it, training others on it and doing research on it for 2 years.  A lot of things were lining up and my eyes and ears were much more open.  Very early, a concept, a seed was planted.  Throughout the 2 years it was cultivated,  after graduation it began to germinate. The process continues, the passion for performance, the fundamentals of discovery and gifting to others, all continue to expand daily!

I hope you can see a little of why this is my vehicle of purpose.  My opportunity to gift back from the gifts given to me!  I most certainly look forward to introducing you and thousands more to life changing experience !

Thank you!

Matt

First blog post

Hello and welcome!

This is the home of FasTwitch Kinetics. Cutting edge resistance training is our core methodology. Utilizing a computer controlled hydraulic resistance system comprised of research grade componentry, we provide a unique training environment and otherwise unattainable results.

As you may know, all training is predicated on the SAID principle. Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands. With Responsive Kinetics on this equipment we are able to make infinite adjustments to the demands in a way not possible with traditional resistance methodolgy.

There is much to cover with regard to the how and I will delve into those topics on upcoming posts. If you have a question you would like addressed, please email your particular question and any information you feel pertinent. I will respond and try to address here. If you have the question, most certainly others do also. I will try not to go too deeply into the science but it is certainly the basis of understanding and also the outcome you are pursuing!

Brick and mortar launch in spring 2019!

We look forward to exceeding your expectations in the arena of your active life at what ever level you perform!
